SANE is a UK-wide charity working to improve quality of life for people affected by mental illness. Its three main objectives are:

  1. To raise awareness and combat stigma about mental illness, educating and campaigning to improve mental health services
  2. To provide care and emotional support for people with mental health problems, their families and carers as well as information for other organisations and the public
  3. To initiate research into the causes and treatments of serious mental illness such as schizophrenia and depression and the psychological and social impact of mental illness.

In 2013/14 the charity was St Leonard’s Hospice

St Leonards Hospice, in York, cares for people with life-threatening illnesses - often, though not always, cancer. Their skilled and specially-trained staff offer in-patient palliative care, in a purpose-built unit with 20 beds and Day Care at the Hospice for people living in their own homes. They also run a Hospice @ Home service.

In 2014/15 the charity is Martin House Hospice

Martin House cares for children and young people with progressive life-limiting illnesses and provides support to their families. Based in the purpose built hospice in Boston Spa, Wetherby Martin House cares for children and young people from throughout the Yorkshire region.
